An Interview with AXA Head of R&D and Chief Data Scientist, Marcin Detyniecki

We spoke to Marcin Detyniecki, Head of R&D and Chief Data Scientist at AXA ahead of his presentation at Inspired AI (17th September 2020). 

Marcin leads innovation projects with a strong focus on adv. analytics and drives research on #HumanizingAI for tech adoption, solving challenges at the frontier between Machine Learning and humans!

Hi Marcin! So tell us, if you could solve any global problem in the world with AI, what would it be?

We all know that AI can learn and reproduce unwanted discrimination. But I believe that, in the future, AI can be a tool to make our world a fairer one. 

Presuming that was solved, what would your second choice be?

AI is a great opportunity for the world. But its adoption is limited because of some fundamental characteristics of AI, such as the Blackbox effect. I believe AI itself will solve these. 

What do you see as the 3 most important things for businesses in relation to AI at the moment?

Robustness, Explicability, Safety. 

What do you see as the 3 most important things for humanity in relation to AI at the moment?

Fairness (nondiscrimination), Environmental Impact, Inclusion.

How do you think AI will make its biggest mark in business/on humanity/the world in the next 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?

In the future AI will be seen as something completely normal, and this will be its biggest mark.

What’s the “coolest”/ most “wow-factor" thing you’ve seen so far in with the use of AI in the sector you work in?

In Insurance AI, beyond reducing processing times for customers, it can evaluate and price risk in a fairer way.

What’s your biggest fear in relation to the application of AI?

My biggest fear in relation to AI, is that before we can do great things, another AI winter could come. 

How do you think AI will cause human contact to change in the future?

With an autonomous and ubiquitous AI, human contact will be prized

What are your personal goals from the event?

I would like to share my knowledge and vision on the most burning topics on AI, and be challenged by brightest brains in AI.
