Ahead of World Summit AI (11th-12th October 2023, Taets Art & Event Park, Amsterdam), we asked Héctor López Romero, Bigdata & AI Senior Product Manager at Open Telekom Cloud, his thoughts on the future of AI.
As an expert in the field, what critical challenges do you believe the AI community needs to address to ensure responsible & ethical AI deployment?
The big challenge is to include all stakeholders to the same ethical level that everyone knows and follows ethics at any level of implementation.
How has AI impacted your specific field of expertise, and what transformative changes do you foresee in the near future?
AI impacts my work a lot since is growing every week and is the biggest trend for at least the next 10 years.
How do you envision AI shaping various industries, and what advice would you give to businesses seeking to integrate AI into their operations?
AI can solve health, finance and legal by now, but should also help us to support our environment, famine and increase the quality of live around the world.
In your opinion, what opportunities and challenges does AI present for job markets and workforce development worldwide?
AI fits right now our daily world since IoT is growing and growing and the persons responsible to deal with that data are still the same. In order to increase revenue, adapt to the current market needs, AI must fill this gap.
Can you share an example of an AI application or project that has personally impressed you, and explain why it stands out?
ModelArts as ML solution together with DataArts Studio as the data governance part in Open Telekom Cloud. Together the data can be well transformed for every use case and AI will deliver best results since the data quality for the trainings increase. Of course Data Engineers and Data Scientist are the key roles to make this happen.
What measures do you believe should be taken to bridge the AI research gap between developed and developing nations to ensure equitable technological progress?
AI should fulfill global regulations that supports ethics.
What 2 people do you admire most in the world of AI in terms of their work?
Renée Cummings from last summits and my very appreciated college Ferenc Kukucska.
What advice would you give to aspiring AI researchers and enthusiasts who want to make a positive impact in the field?
Just continue keep inspired and motivated with AI.
If you could solve any global problem in the world with AI, what would it be and why?
Find ways to increase quality of life, reduce pollution and restore our environment(forest, animals, etc.)
What inspired you to participate in this AI summit as a speaker, and what message do you hope to convey to the audience?
I love to show AI solutions that solve real uses cases.

Since 2017 in T-Systems International with 8 years’ experience as senior Multi-Cloud solution architect and joined in 2020 the Open Telekom Cloud product management team with the aim to keep Open Telekom Cloud as Deutsche Telekom’s leading European public cloud solution. Most of my activities are related to increase quality, develop revenue strategies, train sales, define service vision, be responsible for the Roadmap and increase the visibility of Databases, BigData and AI services. Among other things, I am responsible for the full AI strategy at Open Telekom Cloud.
