Ahead of World Summit AI Americas (24th-24th April 2024, Palais de congrès de Montréal, Montréal), we asked Ajinkya Malasane, Senior Director, AI Product Strategy at TELUS International, his thoughts on the future of AI.

If you could solve any global problem in the world with AI, what would it be and why?

Growing up in a developing yet ambitious country like India I believe I would like to solve the problem of knowledge and information asymmetry using AI in scientific research and technology at the grassroots. This will level up skillset for large population to then contribute their creativity and hard work for faster and bigger technological advancements for humanity as a whole.

What do you think are the 3 most important things for businesses in relation to AI at the moment?
  
1. Discovery - Precisely discovering which business problems deserve AI based solutions.
2. Data -Access to unique datasets to fine-tune open source models.
3. UX - To drive adoption , designing a specialised UX for AI app users for really encapsulating the benefits of AI.

What do you think are the 3 most important things for humanity in relation to AI at the moment?
 
1. Befriend AI - Developing AI-in-the-loop skillets - as more and more jobs get replaced, people need to upskill to the right AI tools and related know-how in their fields to stay relevant and go beyond.

2. Conscious content consumption - Strongly regulating AI generated content.

3. Environmental concerns - High carbon footprint generated by running power hungry processors in datacentres.
 
 
How do you think AI will make its biggest mark in the next 5, 10, 20 years?
  
In short term maybe 5 to 10 years - Biggest AI achievements will be unveiling complex unknown biological processes to help create effective drugs against some of complex diseases like cancer, cardiovascular disorders and diabetes.

In long term like 20 years - Inter-species communication maybe.

What are you most excited about taking part in the WSAI Series?
